The workshop "Hobbies" includes (a) the development of a film and (b) the production of paint for artists.


   About the exhibit   

The visitor will develop his own film, separate casein from milk and use it as basis for paint. The phenomena introduced are redox reactions, differences between mixtures and compounds, pigments and electrolysis.

   Material / equipment   

a)

Equipment:

  • a box for loading the camera with the light sensitive paper.
    Size: 50 x 50 x 50 cm,
  • a water proof camera box made from red plexi with a top that can be opened for cleaning,
  • A 300 mm lens adjusted to the other end of the box,
  • a good light source for illuminating the object,
  • tap water.

Materials:

  • light-sensitive paper,
  • developer,
  • fixer.

b)

Equipment:

  • small plastic tubes or plates,
  • small bottles containing the chemical.

Materials:

  • milk powder,
  • vinegar,
  • water,
  • chemicals,
  • o ammonium iron(III) sulphate,
  • potassium ferrocyanide(II),
  • sodium silicate solution iron(III) oxide.

General:

  • running water,
  • heater.
